BEIJING (AP) - The creator of China's largest pornographic Web site was jailed for life on Wednesday, state media reported.

Xinhua News Agency said judges at the Taiyuan Intermediate People's Court in Shanxi province gave the life sentence to Chen Hui and handed down terms of 13 months to 10 years to eight others after they were convicted of profiting from pornographic dissemination.

Chen, 28, and his accomplices started the Qingseliuyuetian (Pornographic Summer) Web site in 2004, and opened a further three porn Web sites, attracting more than 600,000 users.

Xinhua reported that police said it was difficult to know the exact amount of profits the Web site earned. Police found about 200,000 yuan ($25,000) in the bank accounts of the nine.

When the site was closed in October last year, it contained more than 9 million pornographic images and articles, the police said.

China has the world's second-largest population of Internet users after the United States, with more than 123 million people online.

The government encourages Internet use for education and business, but strictly controls content and tries to block access to material deemed pornographic or subversive.

Welln, what can be said? It seems that the world is facing a new outbreak of protect the children from evil porn fallacy lately...

A mother whose daughter died at the hands of a man obsessed with violent internet porn has won her fight for a ban on possessing such images.

The government has announced plans to make the possession of violent porn punishable by three years in jail.

It follows a campaign by Berkshire woman Liz Longhurst whose daughter Jane, a Brighton schoolteacher, was allegedly strangled by Graham Coutts.

Mrs Longhurst's campaign was backed by MPs and a 50,000-signature petition.

In November last year the petition won cross-party support when it was presented to the House of Commons and was backed publicly by the solicitor general, Harriet Harman MP.

Since her daughter's death Mrs Longhurst, 74, from Reading, has fought a long campaign to ban the possession of images of sexual violence.

Doubts remain over ban

Mrs Longhurst said: "My daughter Sue and myself are very pleased that after 30 months of intensive campaigning we have persuaded the government to take action against these horrific internet sites, which can have such a corrupting influence and glorify extreme sexual violence."

Jane Longhurst, 31, was found dead on Wiggonholt Common, near Pulborough, West Sussex, on 19 April 2003.

She had been strangled with a pair of tights and her body kept in storage for weeks before it was found.

In 2004, musician Coutts, 36, of Waterloo Street, Hove, West Sussex, was convicted of her murder but on appeal he was ordered to serve a minimum 26 years in jail.

Trial jurors had been told of his obsession with strangulation and how he looked at internet sites connected with the fetish.

It is already a crime to make or publish such images but proposed legislation will outlaw possession of images such as "material featuring violence that is, or appears to be, life-threatening or is likely to result in serious and disabling injury".

Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker MP said: "Such material has no place in our society but the advent of the internet has meant that this material is more easily available and means existing controls are being by-passed - we must move to tackle this."

Mrs Longhurst said legislation, which would apply to all websites, would mean her daughter's death had not been "entirely in vain".

Reading West MP Martin Salter, who backed the campaign, said: "This campaign has taken a huge amount of time and effort but it has struck a chord right across the country.

The move by the government would close a legal loophole.

"It is great news that the Government has not only listened but has responded to calls to outlaw access to sickening internet images, which can so easily send vulnerable people over the edge."

The new law will not target those who accidentally come into contact with obscene pornography or affect mainstream entertainment industry working within current obscenity laws.

But the proposed legislation has drawn opposition from anti-censorship groups and organisations who represent people involved in sadomasochist activities.

Shaun Gabb, director of the anti-censorship organisation the Libertarian Alliance, said: "If you are criminalising possession then you are giving police inquisitorial powers to come into your house and see what you've got, now we didn't have this in the past."

This year five Law Lords sent Coutts' case back to the Court of Appeal to "invite that court to quash the conviction".

It was argued that jurors in the original trial should have been offered the option of manslaughter as well as a murder verdict.

The law is so vague that i'm pretty sure that any fetish could fall under this.

A high-ranking IAF officer caused a storm on Monday in an off-record briefing during which he told reporters that IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz had ordered the military to destroy 10 buildings in Beirut in retaliation to every Katyusha rocket strike on Haifa.

The officer said that the equation was created by Halutz and that every rocket strike on Haifa would be answered by IAF missile strikes on 10 12-story buildings in the Beirut neighborhood of Dahiya, a Hizbullah stronghold. Since the beginning of Operation Change of Direction, launched on July 12 following the abduction of two soldiers during a Hizbullah cross-border attack, over 80 buildings in the neighborhood have been destroyed.

After the officer's remarks were published on The Jerusalem Post website as well as other Israeli news sites, the IDF Spokesperson's Office released a statement insinuating that reporters had misquoted the senior officer and claimed that the publications were false and that Halutz had never issued such a directive.

The IDF Spokesperson's Office later retracted its accusation that reporters had misquoted the officer and issued a second statement claiming that the high-ranking officer had made a mistake and was wrong in claiming that Halutz had issued such a directive.

FF #538: On voit se dévellopper les tensions en Sue et Reed apparue dans CW#2, The Thing refuse de prendre une position claire (enfin si, comme le laisse entrevoir la preview du #539) et explique son raisonnement

X-Factor #8: Je n'y ai pas compris grand chose, à part que Layla lit Atlas Shrugged de Ayn Rand, et Scarlet Witch apprend de la bouche de PP le pourquoi du comment de la décimation, ca laisse supposer que l'institut Xavier verra la rapide visite de X-factor qui va demander des explications à Cyclops....

Sinon, ca m'apprendra à ne pas avoir suivi "House of M" et l'histoire de la decimation des mutants (X-Factor non plus d'ailleurs)....

Amazing Spiderman #533: Peter Parker affronte les conséquences de son coming out dans CW #2: J.J. New Avengers #21: z'êtes sur que c'est pas un Captain America avec une mauvaise couverture? Captaine America tente de trouver des alliés après avoir passé underground et décide d'aller dire bonjour à Hank Pym en compagnie de Falcon...

Sinon j'ai remarqué un truc: Dans le camp des pro SHRA, on a comme leader les principaux "génies" de l'univers Marvel: Hank Pym, Tony Stark et Reed Richards (Bruce Banner étant en exil à la suite de NA: Illuminatis). Pourtant d'un autre coté, ces 3 personnages ne donnent pas vraiment envie d'être dans leur camps: il s'agit d'un type qui bat sa femme, un alcoolique et un scientifique qui passe pour un salaud insensible 90% du temps. Loin d'être des modèles....

When i first saw this spoof , i thought, "they can't be that lame come on, who would they convince with that kind of crap?"
well unfortunately, i was wrong: the canuck equivalent of the RIAA gave us one of the most laughable superhero ever, yeah even worse than Captain Euro or Squirrel Girl: they gave us Captain Copyright.... What kind of shit is that?! Really... After the sheer amazement of finding this stuff, i'm asking myself, what kind of superpower does he have? Super Suing like said someone on Stardestroyer, i would guess that he is sending explosive Cease and Desist Order à la Bullseye.
One thing i'm definetely sure, is, that he isn't the Green Arrow because his aim is far from perfect....
